The Beyond Compare software tool was first released in the year 1996 by a company called Scooter software. The software tool is capable of comparing text, files, folders, directories, binary files, executables, tables, registry, images, and pictures. The differences existing between the two compared files are displayed with a clear view, highlighting the changes on the display screen.
Further, the tool can be integrated seamlessly with virtual file systems, archive files, and version control system to access the required files/folders for comparison purpose and to synchronize the data across the files/folders stored on these systems. Some of the virtual file systems the tool supports include FTP sites, cloud storage, local and network drives. The archive files include the Zip file, the tar file, the Gzip file, and so on. The tool supports comparison feature on the well-known version control systems.
The tool is supported on multiple platforms with built-in comparison viewers for highlighting the changes compared across different file formats. Further, the tool supports synchronization of data across folders and merging the changes identified across the folders.
Additionally, the tool supports various editorial features such as Graphical User Interface, Command Line Interface, scripting language to automate repetitive tasks, and report generation in a various formats after comparing the files or folders.
