Mumble is an open source, low-latency, high quality voice chat software primarily intended for use while gaming. It uses OPUS, CELT and Speex, not just the voice compression technology, but also the voice pre-processing to remove noise and improve clarity. It also has positional audio for supported games, meaning the other players’ voice will come from the direction their character is in game.
- Low latency
- High audio quality
- Staying backwards compatible as long as there is a considerable user-base with older versions
- Customizable for different use-cases
